We had a very complicated sale and buy, which Vlaho facilitated expertly. We had to sell a very cluttered 1BR which was already way too small for our family of 3. Vlaho Baletin is a kick-ass realtor, any way you slice it. He helped my wife, six-month infant and I find the perfect, three-bedroom co-op in Queens right at the bottom of the real estate market, two or three years ago. It was our first home purchase. We talked with a half-dozen or buy-side realtors before we decided to go with Vlaho. We went with him for a few reasons. He’s really, really nice, for one thing. He just puts out a pleasant vibe – a genuine vibe. He smiles easily. We were nervous, and he made us feel comfortable.
He is also understanding. He understood what we – as his client – were looking for, and he went about figuring out how to meet our needs. That’s actually a rare trait in the sales field. Too many sales people are interested in using clients to fulfill their needs. They need a deal. They need a commission. That is not how Vlaho sees things. He saw that we needed a home.
One reason I think Vlaho understood our needs so well is because he is 1) a smart guy with a deft touch for people and 2) a family man. He’s bought a house. He has kids. He’s been there. He could put himself in our shoes.
Vlaho also likes his job, which is important. I got a sense that he finds the buying and selling of homes in New York City to be a total gas, despite the chaos and stress of it all. He’d laugh about it sometimes – how no-holds-holds-barred and anything-goes it all is. He accepted it for what it was. He had positive and pragmatic attitude. I like that.
He was also good at his job. That’s important. When our first deal fell through, we were devastated, naturally. It irked Vlaho too. But he stayed cool and lined us up something even better. We ended up getting an even better deal. I was deeply impressed with how he negotiated the second deal. He had a great feel for the seller, and what they would accept. He actually bid lower than I had asked him too, knowing he could talk them down lower. Think about that for a second: A higher bid would have meant a higher sale price, which would have meant a higher commission for Vlaho. But Vlaho wasn’t after the highest commission. He was after the best deal possible for his client. And he got it.
Buying a home, or selling a home, is damn stressful. It is the most stressful thing you are going to do in your financial life. I’m not looking forward to doing it again. But one thing that sets my mind at ease? I’m gonna have Vlaho handling our deal. He’s the best.
